VEM is a German company specializing in the production of electric motors, generators and drive technology for industrial applications. The company has its origins in the GDR-era motor industry and has evolved after reunification into a modern, internationally competitive manufacturer of electric drive systems. VEM motors are used in various industrial applications from pumps and fans to compressors and conveyors.
VEM produces asynchronous motors, synchronous motors, generators, explosion-proof motors and special motors for special environmental conditions. The motors are available in power classes from a few watts to several megawatts for low and medium voltage. VEM also supplies frequency converter-compatible motors for energy-efficient variable drives and special versions for the mining and offshore industries.

History
VEM has its origins in the Volkseigene Betriebe (VEB) Elektromotorenwerk Wernigerode in the GDR, founded in 1946. After German reunification in 1990, the state enterprises were privatized and reorganized as VEM motors GmbH. The company has modernized its production and grown into a competitive manufacturer of electric drive systems for the European and global market.
