SKF Vogel

SKF Vogel is a leading German manufacturer of centralized lubrication systems, gear pumps and lubrication technology for industrial mechanical engineering, machine tools and heavy industry. As part of the SKF Group, SKF Vogel supplies gerotor gear pumps, progressive distributors, two-line systems, oil/air mixing systems and associated pressure gauges and solenoid valves for automatic lubrication systems. With a catalog of 990 products, SKF Vogel provides the most complete line of lubrication technology for industrial installations. SKF Vogel products are trusted worldwide by operators of machine tools, presses and large industrial installations for reliable automatic lubrication.

SKF Vogel gerotor gear pumps (143-series) are the core products for programmed lubricant fluid transport in centralized lubrication systems. The 143-11NB03C and 143-12NB03C gear pumps deliver accurate, pulsation-free lubricant flows for distribution dividers in progressive and two-line lubrication systems. Flow capacities from 0.1 to 10 liters per minute at pressures up to 250 bar are available. Stainless steel versions are available for food and pharmaceutical applications.

SKF Vogel oil/air mixing heads (161-300-series) create an oil/air mixture for minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) in CNC machining centers and grinding machines. The mixing head principle provides a precisely calibrated oil mist directed directly at the cutting tool or spindle bearing, reducing lubricant consumption by 90% compared to flood cooling. Four-point and eight-point mixing head versions are available for multi-axis machining centers.

SKF Vogel 2/2-way and 4/2-way solenoid valves (161-110 and 161-140-series) control oil flow in centralized lubrication systems via electromagnetic actuation. The valves are available in 12V DC and 24V DC versions for connection to PLC-based lubrication management controllers. Pressure gauges (169-series) with switching contact monitor pressure in lubrication lines and provide an alarm on pressure loss or pressure build-up. Flow monitors (171-series) monitor the flow rate in each individual lubrication line and detect faults or blockages at an early stage.

SKF Vogel also supplies single-line piston metering devices (24-2800 series) as core components in progressive lubrication installations. They provide precise, adjustable oil or grease dosing to individual lubrication points. With each pressure pulse from the central lubrication supply line, an internal piston displaces an adjustable volume to the corresponding lubrication point. The modular design enables easy expansion and adaptation of the installation.

At Verkopershulp.nl you will find the complete SKF Vogel range including gear pumps, distributors, mixing heads, solenoid valves and pressure gauges. Our technical team has in-depth knowledge of SKF Vogel lubrication systems and assists in identifying the correct parts for your installation, even if you only have an existing part number or system reference.

History

Vogel Pumpen was founded in 1929 in Würzburg, Germany, as a manufacturer of industrial lubrication pump technology. The company was a pioneer in developing centralized lubrication systems for the European mechanical engineering industry. During the 1950s and 1960s, Vogel introduced single-line and progressive lubrication system technology that became the standard for centralized lubrication of machine tools and presses. In the 1960s and 1970s, Vogel expanded its product range to oil/air mixing systems for minimum quantity lubrication in CNC machining centers. In 2012, SKF, the Swedish global leader in bearing and lubrication technology, acquired Vogel Pumpen and integrated it as SKF Vogel. Today SKF Vogel has production facilities in Würzburg, Germany, and benefits from the worldwide SKF distribution network.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a progressive and a two-line lubrication system?
A progressive lubrication system uses mechanical distributors where each lubrication point pump is activated sequentially by the oil flow from the previous pump, requiring only one pump pressure line. A two-line lubrication system uses two lines that are alternately pressurized, with the distributors delivering a precise amount of lubricant at each pressure change. Progressive systems are simpler for small installations; two-line systems are suitable for large installations with long pipe runs.
What is oil/air minimum quantity lubrication?
Oil/air minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) uses a mixing head to create a precisely dosed oil mist directed via a compressed air jet directly at the cutting tool or spindle bearing. MQL reduces lubricant consumption to 10-50 ml per hour compared to flood cooling. SKF Vogel mixing heads are designed for CNC machining centers and grinding machines where minimal contamination of workpieces and coolant water is required.
How do I verify that my SKF Vogel lubrication system is functioning correctly?
SKF Vogel pressure gauges (169-series) with switching contact monitor pressure in the lubrication line and provide an electrical alarm on excessive pressure (blocked line) or low pressure (leakage or pump failure). Progressive distributors are equipped with indicator pins that signal completion of a full cycle to the PLC. Regular visual inspection of lubrication points and oil level in the lubricant reservoir are recommended maintenance steps.
What lubricating oil is suitable for SKF Vogel centralized lubrication systems?
SKF Vogel lubrication systems are compatible with mineral lubricating oils from ISO VG 32 to ISO VG 220 depending on lubrication point type and operating temperature. For guideways in CNC machines, ISO VG 68 slideway oil (way oil) is recommended. For bearings in higher temperature applications, ISO VG 100 or ISO VG 150 is recommended. Synthetic lubricating oils are available for low-temperature applications or food-safe lubricants in the food industry.
What is a gerotor gear pump and how does it differ from an external gear pump?
An SKF Vogel gerotor gear pump (143-series) uses two internal gears (inner rotor and outer rotor) rotating on offset centers to transport lubricant fluid in a pulsation-free manner. Gerotor pumps have less wear than external gear pumps due to fewer sliding contact points and are quieter in operation. They are ideally suited for low-flow, high-pressure lubrication applications in centralized lubrication systems.
Are SKF Vogel lubrication components available in stainless steel?
Yes, SKF Vogel supplies selected lubrication components in stainless steel (AISI 316L) for use in food and pharmaceutical environments requiring cleanability and corrosion resistance. Stainless steel versions are available for gear pumps, solenoid valves, lubrication connection fittings and lubricant reservoirs. Food-safe H1-certified lubricants are recommended for use in SKF Vogel food industry lubrication systems.
Does Verkopershulp.nl offer technical support for SKF Vogel lubrication systems?
Yes, Verkopershulp.nl has technical specialists who support you in designing, selecting components and commissioning SKF Vogel centralized lubrication systems. We advise on pump type, distributor configuration, pipe sizing and lubricant selection for your specific machine application.
