SKF

SKF is a Swedish-German industrial group and world leader in bearing technology, seals, lubrication systems, and condition monitoring. With over 110 years of experience and a presence in more than 130 countries, SKF delivers components and systems essential to the reliable operation of rotating machinery in every industrial sector worldwide.

The SKF range includes deep groove ball bearings (6200, 6300 series and more), angular contact bearings, cylindrical roller bearings, spherical roller bearings, tapered roller bearings, needle bearings, and axial bearings in all standard sizes and precision classes (P0, P5, P6, P4, P2). Special versions are available for high temperatures, corrosive environments, magnetically clean, and vacuum applications.

SKF seals form a complete assortment of radial shaft seals, static seals, O-rings, hydraulic seals, and rotary seals for the widest range of media and temperature ranges. SKF's lubrication systems – including MonoFlex single-line systems, DuoFlex double-line systems, and ProgressivPlus progressive distributor pump systems – ensure automatic, metered lubrication of multiple lube points in large machines.

SKF Condition Monitoring includes portable measuring instruments (CMVL, CMAS), fixed monitoring systems (IMx, CMSS), and the cloud-based SKF Enlight platform for predictive maintenance based on vibration analysis, temperature measurement, and oil particle analysis. This enables the transition from periodic to condition-based maintenance, increasing machine availability.

At Verkopershulp.nl we offer over 3,264 genuine SKF parts, including bearings, seals, lubrication systems, mounting tools, and condition monitoring equipment. As an authorized SKF distributor we guarantee authenticity, fast delivery throughout Europe, and expert advice from our technical specialists.

History

SKF was founded in 1907 in Gothenburg, Sweden by Sven Wingqvist, a mechanical engineer. Wingqvist developed the first self-aligning ball bearing as a solution to shaft alignment problems in the textile industry of that era. This patent laid the foundation for SKF's worldwide success. In the first half of the 20th century SKF expanded to virtually all continents and diversified into cylindrical roller bearings, tapered roller bearings, and special bearings for the emerging automotive and aircraft industries. After World War II SKF was one of the most important suppliers of bearings for the reconstruction of European industry. In the second half of the 20th century SKF acquired leading sealing companies (CR Seals), lubrication technology companies, and condition monitoring companies, accelerating the transformation from bearing manufacturer to total supplier of rotating machine technology. Today SKF is a publicly listed company (Nasdaq Stockholm) with approximately 45,000 employees and annual revenues of approximately SEK 100 billion.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I select the correct SKF bearing for my application?
Select an SKF bearing based on radial and axial loads, speed, required service life (in hours or kilometres), available space (bore diameter, outside diameter, width), and environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, vibrations). SKF's Bearing Select tool and the SKF General Catalogue guide you step by step through the selection process.
What are the benefits of SKF C3 clearance over standard CN clearance?
SKF C3 clearance (greater than standard) is recommended when bearings are subject to high temperature gradients, interference fits on the inner ring, or high rotational speeds leading to thermal expansion. C3 clearance prevents the bearing clearance from being reduced to zero by thermal expansion, which would cause premature failure.
How do I correctly mount an SKF bearing?
Always use SKF TMFT or TMMR bearing mounting tools and never strike directly on the bearing rings. Heat the bearing before mounting via induction heating (SKF TIH series) or oil bath to maximum 110°C to avoid fitting problems. After mounting check that the bearing clearance is correct with a feeler gauge.
Which SKF lubricant should I use in my bearing?
The choice of lubricant depends on speed, load, operating temperature, and environment. SKF LGMT2 is a universal grease for light to moderate applications up to 110°C. SKF LGEP2 suits high loads and low speeds. SKF LGHB2 is a high-temperature grease up to 180°C. Consult the SKF lubrication guide for your specific application.
How do I interpret SKF bearing numbers?
SKF bearing numbers encode the bearing series (6 = deep groove, 7 = angular contact, N = cylindrical, 2 = spherical), the bore code (divisible by 5 gives bore size in mm, e.g., 08 = 40mm), the dimension series, and the variant. Suffixes indicate special features: C3 (greater clearance), Z (one steel shield), 2Z (two shields), RS (rubber seal), 2RS (both sides). The SKF website provides a complete legend.
Are SKF bearings available in stainless steel?
Yes, SKF supplies an extensive range of bearings in stainless steel (AISI 440C martensitic) for applications requiring corrosion resistance. These bearings are recognizable by the WA208 suffix in some series. SKF also supplies bearings with ceramic balls (hybrid bearings) for applications requiring electrical insulation or extremely high speeds.
How do I predict the service life of an SKF bearing?
Calculate the nominal service life (L10h) of an SKF bearing using the formula L10h = (C/P)^p × (10^6/60n), where C is the dynamic load rating, P the equivalent dynamic bearing load, p is 3 for ball bearings or 10/3 for roller bearings, and n is the rotational speed. SKF's life calculation module in Bearing Select offers extended calculations including lubrication factor and contamination.
Can I integrate SKF lubrication systems with my PLC?
Yes, SKF's electronic lubrication pumps (ELP, KFG series) and central lubrication units are available with PLC interface via 24VDC digital I/O, RS232, or CANbus. Signals for lubrication cycle confirmation, emergency alarm, and low-level warning are standard. SKF also supplies Ethernet-compatible lubrication systems for integration in SCADA and condition monitoring platforms.
