History

Balluff was founded in 1921 by Gebhard Balluff in Neuhausen auf den Fildern near Stuttgart, Germany. The family business started as a manufacturer of mechanical components and evolved in the 1950s into inductive sensor technology. In the 1980s, Balluff introduced the magnetostrictive linear position encoder (BTL series), a technological breakthrough for accurate hydraulic cylinder position measurement. In the 1990s and 2000s, Balluff strongly expanded its range with RFID systems, IO-Link interfaces and smart sensor network systems.
