Asco

ASCO is a leading American manufacturer of solenoid valves, pneumatic valves and fluid management systems for process industries, air technology, fire protection and HVAC. As part of Emerson Electric, ASCO supplies solenoid valves for compressed air, water, oil, gas, steam and special media in configurations from 2/2-way to 5/2-way. With a catalog of 996 products, ASCO provides the most complete line of solenoid valves for industrial applications.

ASCO dust collector solenoid valves are the most used products for pulse-jet systems in baghouse filters and cyclone separators. The 353-series and 8352-series solenoid valves are specifically designed for pulse signals of 15-50 ms with short opening times for effective dust collection in industrial filters. 3/4" to 1-1/2" NPT connections are standard; larger versions up to 3" are available for high-capacity filter systems. Coil voltages of 24V DC and 110/230V AC are available.

ASCO gas shutoff valves (8214-series) are safety solenoid valves for automatic gas line isolation at emergency stop or fire detection. The 8214-series is certified conforming to EN 13611 and ATEX II 2G for use in natural gas, town gas and LPG pipelines in heating installations, industrial furnaces and gas burner systems. ASCO gas shutoff valves comply with UL safety requirements for North American installations and CE directives for European gas installations.

ASCO diaphragm valves and quick exhaust valves (1006840-series) are used for rapid compressed air venting of pneumatic cylinders and accumulated compressed air reservoirs. Quick exhaust valves with G1/4" to G1" connections reduce the venting time of pneumatic actuators by up to 70% compared to standard solenoid valves by releasing the compressed air directly near the cylinder. ASCO coil kits and diaphragm replacement sets are available as maintenance packages.

ASCO solenoid valves are also available in stainless steel versions for the food and pharmaceutical industries. The 8340-series and 327-series solenoid valves with AISI 316L stainless steel body and PTFE seals comply with FDA requirements for food contact and are available in ATEX versions for explosive environments. Island systems with multiple solenoid valves on a common manifold are available for compact pneumatic control panels.

At Verkopershulp.nl you will find the complete ASCO range including solenoid valves, coil kits, diaphragm replacement sets and connection materials. Our technical experts advise you on selecting the correct ASCO solenoid valve for your medium, pressure, temperature and ATEX classification.

History

ASCO was founded in 1888 as the Automatic Switch Company in New York, USA, as a manufacturer of automatic electrical switches for the early electrical industry. In the 1930s, ASCO developed the first solenoid valves for automatic control of fluids and gases in industrial applications, representing a revolution in process industry automation. In the 1940s and 1950s, ASCO expanded its product line to include emergency stop gas valves, steam valves and compressed air solenoid valves for the petrochemical industry. ASCO grew into the most recognized name in solenoid valves worldwide and was acquired by Emerson Electric. As part of Emerson Automation Solutions, ASCO today has production facilities in the USA, Europe and Asia, with more than 5,000 employees and a catalog of over 10,000 standard valve variants.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a pulse-jet dust collector solenoid valve?
An ASCO pulse-jet dust collector solenoid valve (353-series) opens for a short pulse time (15-50 ms) to send a concentrated compressed air pulse through a filter bag that knocks the collected dust off the filter bag. The solenoid valves operate at high frequency (every 5-60 seconds per row) for continuous cleaning of industrial baghouse filters during operation. Short opening times are essential for effective cleaning with minimal compressed air consumption.
Are ASCO gas shutoff valves certified for use in Europe?
Yes, ASCO 8214-series gas shutoff valves are certified conforming to EN 13611 (safety solenoid valves for gas burner systems) and ATEX II 2G certified for gas explosive environments. The valves are CE-marked conforming to the European gas appliance directive and comply with European standards for gas installations. They are suitable for natural gas (G20), town gas (G25) and LPG applications.
What is the service life of an ASCO solenoid valve?
ASCO solenoid valves are designed for a service life of 10 to 100 million switching cycles depending on type and application. Dust collector solenoid valves for pulse-jet applications are designed for 50+ million switching cycles. Periodic maintenance of the solenoid coil, diaphragm and seal rings extends service life. ASCO repair kits contain all wear parts for field overhaul.
Which ASCO solenoid valves are suitable for use in ATEX zones?
ASCO supplies a complete line of ATEX-certified solenoid valves for use in gas explosive zones (Zone 1, 2) and dust explosive zones (Zone 21, 22). ATEX II 2G/D certified models are available for natural gas, steam, compressed air and chemical applications in refineries, petrochemical plants and storage terminals. IECEx certification is available for international installations outside Europe.
How do I replace an ASCO solenoid valve coil?
ASCO solenoid valve coils are easily replaced by disconnecting the electrical connection, unscrewing the coil retaining nut and sliding the coil off the valve body. The replacement coil must have exactly the same type number as the original (voltage, frequency, power input). After installation, the retaining nut must be tightened to the torque specified in the ASCO specification.
What is the difference between a normally closed (NC) and normally open (NO) solenoid valve?
A normally closed (NC) ASCO solenoid valve is closed without power (the spring holds the seat closed) and opens when voltage is applied to the coil. A normally open (NO) valve is open without power and closes when voltage is applied. NC version is most commonly used for safety applications where the valve must be closed on power failure. NO version is used for continuous flow with occasional shutoff.
Does Verkopershulp.nl offer technical support for ASCO solenoid valves?
Yes, Verkopershulp.nl has technical specialists who support you in selecting ASCO solenoid valves for your specific medium, pressure, temperature and ATEX classification. We advise on valve type, connection sizes, voltage, certification and repair kits for your installation.
